Got a call from the teacher

I just got a call from Waverly's first grade teacher. She wanted to confirm that it was ok for Waverly to give all the students (8 of them) ziploc bags full of beads and money. When she asked Waverly if her mommy knew about this, her reply was, "They're mine. She doesn't need to know." For the life of me I can't figure out why she decided to have gift-giving day today and why she didn't tell me. I do remember her asking on Saturday if she could have 8 ziplocs. Didn't think anything of it then. I've been collecting beads from here and from the States for my girls club crafts at the school. Also, I hosted a women's event here on Saturday and I put together ziploc bags of items for card-making. I have a feeling someone's trying to emulate her mother. Just wish I was in on it! I told Miss Bray to let each child pick out a couple of beads (they're very expensive here!). She said that Waverly had put Russian coins in each bag, too. She actually gave the teacher a dollar bill! What are their little minds thinking?!

Asa got his allowance today (after a 4-month moratorium of said allowance due to the loss of my iPod at a store; but that's another blog entry). I handed him the twenty. After a few moments of studying the bill...

A: "Mom, this is the White House on the back, right?"
M: "Yep"
A: "And, this is Samuel L. Jackson on the front, right?"

My parents took the kids and me to lunch today. A Buddy Holly song was on the speakers overhead. My dad told the kids about how he used to love to listen to that song while he was waiting for school to start. He even sang a few lines along with Buddy (Waverly was mortified).

Asa: Mom this is one of those songs from the 80s, right?

Me: Asa, this song was already old when I was a kid.............. IN THE 80s!!!!!

Top 10 most played songs on my iPod per Gayla's request:

OK, G, here's what's listed as top 10 on mine...

1) My Savior Lives (Desperation Band)  This is one that the kids and I love to jam to when we're sitting by the computer.

2) Let's Get It Started (Black Eyed Peas)   Asa loves this and played it repeatedly when we first downloaded.

3) I Don't Dance (High School Musical)  Pierce's fav around here

4) Mary, Did You Know (Clay Aiken)  Beautiful rendition of this classic.  We love to listen to it in-season and out

5) I Am Free (Desperation Band)  We love them

6) The Best of Both Worlds (Hannah Montana)  This list is very revealing about our family!

7) Lucille (Kenny Rogers)  I don't even know what to say...I am stunned by this song's placement

8) Black Horse and the Cherry Tree (KT Tunstall)...Love this funky tune

9) Ice Ice Baby (Vanilla Ice)  Asa (and his father!) are falling in love with rap albeit it "retro rap" -- I think I just invented a new genre of music

10) Irreplaceable (Beyonce) Great girl's song, but, again, shocked at how high up on the list it is

Such a fun blog!  I hope to see all of you post your list, too!

From two minutes ago:

Pierce:  Mommy, you're just so pretty.

Me:  Aww, thank you, honey.  You're just so sweet.

Pierce:  Mommy, when are you gonna get married . . . . . . . again?

Me:  Never.  I'll always  be with Daddy.  Why?

Pierce: But he's always gone.

Me:

Erkin is away on a business trip in Kuwait and will be gone for two more weeks.  Couple that with the month we were away from him in Tulsa on the visa trip, and we have a little boy worried about his mommy's marital happiness!
